This 67 Hectare property located in the very heart of the Margaux appellation, dates back to the 12th Century, when it was called Lamothe Cantenac, made especially famous for being poured at the marriage of King Henry II to Elenor d'Aquitain. Awarded 3rd Grand Cru Classe in 1855, the wines have always enjoyed a great reputation, but under the Cruse Family since 1945 and later in 2012 joined in partnership with the Lorenzetti family this wine continues to shine. The wines are renowned for their great value for money, but also for balancing freshness with power and beautifully refined tannins, which make them approachable in their youth but excel with long-term cellaring improving over 3 decades. |

The modern history of Château Haut-Batailley, a 5th Grand Cru Classé estate in Pauillac, began in the 1940s when Château Batailley was divided between the Borie brothers. François Borie took Haut-Batailley, expanding it with 15 hectares from neighbouring Duhart-Milon. After his death in 1953, his daughter Françoise inherited the estate, aided by her brother Jean-Eugène and later his son François-Xavier, who led the estate into a golden era. In 2006, the winery was fully renovated. In 2017, the Cazes family of Château Lynch-Bages acquired Haut-Batailley. Under Jean-Charles Cazes, the estate continues to thrive. The wines are rich, structured, and age-worthy, requiring seven years to open and capable of maturing gracefully for two decades or more. |
