The modern history of Château Haut-Batailley, a 5th Grand Cru Classé estate in Pauillac, began in the 1940s when Château Batailley was divided between the Borie brothers. François Borie took Haut-Batailley, expanding it with 15 hectares from neighbouring Duhart-Milon. After his death in 1953, his daughter Françoise inherited the estate, aided by her brother Jean-Eugène and later his son François-Xavier, who led the estate into a golden era. In 2006, the winery was fully renovated. In 2017, the Cazes family of Château Lynch-Bages acquired Haut-Batailley. Under Jean-Charles Cazes, the estate continues to thrive. The wines are rich, structured, and age-worthy, requiring seven years to open and capable of maturing gracefully for two decades or more.
