Chateau Saint Pierre’s 300 year history as a wine estate has been varied to say the least, awarded 4th Grand Cru Classe in the 1855 classification, the wine was celebrated until the 1920’s when it went downhill due to bad management, the wines remained somewhat mediocre until Henri Martin purchased the property in 1982, this was when the true potential was revealed and over the next 40 years Saint Pierre became the most improved property in Bordeaux, now producing wines equal to its prestigious neighbours of Ducru Beaucaillou, Beychevelle and Gruard Larose but at a fraction of the price. Enjoy this wine aged from 8 to 30 years and more.

Of the three great Leoville estates, Poyferre is arguably the most modern and approachable in style . This was the vision of Didier Culvelier, when he took over management of his family’s property in 1979, and over the next 4 decades he improved the vineyards, the winemaking facilities and the vat cellars, and in turn the quality of the wine so as to be ranked amongst the all-time greats. On Didier’s retirement in 2020, his niece Sara Lecompte Cuvelier took over management and she continues to improve this great wines reputation. To sum up in four words: elegant, powerful, refined & age-worthy. Enjoy the wine between 5 and 30 years of aging.

This prestigious Premier Grand Cru Classe estate, located between Chateau Pavie & Chateau Troplong Mondot, dates back to the late 19th Century when it was founded by the Albert Macquin, a man often credited as being the saviour of Bordeaux by developing and promoting the grafting of vines onto American rootstock, which is resistant to the devastating effects of Phylloxera. In modern times the sustainable agriculture is the focus and guided by the renowned oenologists Stephane Derenoncourt & Nicolas Thienpoint, the wines are rich, opulent, powerful and elegant, showcasing ripe dark fruit flavours with distinctive minerality and decades of aging potential.

In Bordeaux a truly great vintage is only declared when it is great across the whole region and the price is reflected accordingly. In good vintages some appellations fair much better than others and this is very much the case in 2015 for Margaux, located at the widest part of The Medoc and so protected from the Atlantic influence and being spared from the rains that fell in the Northern Medoc during the harvest, these great value wines have proven to be exceptional and 10 years on continue to show their outstanding potential, drink now or keep for another 10 years.
