Chateau Saint Pierre’s 300 year history as a wine estate has been varied to say the least, awarded 4th Grand Cru Classe in the 1855 classification, the wine was celebrated through to the1920’s when it lost its way due to bad management, it wasn’t until Henri Martin purchased the property in 1982, that the true potential was revealed and over the next 40 years Saint Pierre became the most improved property in Bordeaux, now producing rich, full bodied, elegant wines equal to its prestigious neighbours of Ducru Beaucaillou, Beychevelle and Gruard Larose, but at a fraction of the price. Dating back to the 1600's the property was originally owned by the Armailhacq brothers, river-boat captains who invested in Pauillac property. Located between Pontet Canet and Brane Mouton (which would later become Mouton-Rothschild), good enough to be classified as a 5th Growth in the 1855 classification, it wasn't until 1934 when Baron Philippe de Rothschild purchased the property that the wines would begin to see their full potential. Under the direction of the Mouton Rothschild winemaking team, produced from 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, the wines are rich and full and a perfect representation of Pauillac's Terroir. This 67 Hectare property located in the very heart of the Margaux appellation, dates back to the 12th Century, when it was called Lamothe Cantenac, made especially famous for being poured at the marriage of King Henry II to Elenor d’Aquitain. Awarded 3rd Grand Cru Classe in 1855, the wines have always enjoyed a a great reputation, but under the Cruse Family since 1945 and later in 2012 joined in partnership with the Lorenzetti family this wine continues to shine. Dating back to the 13th Century and named after Bertrand de Goth who would later become Pope Clement V, this 69 hectare property located in the Pessac-Leognan appellation of Bordeaux is one of the oldest continuously cultivated vineyards in the World. Over its 700 year history, it has been deeply influential in the heritage of Bordeaux wine making and no less so since Bernard Magrez purchased the property in 1985 where he has continued to raise the bar in innovation and quality producing wines that are approachable young, but age beautifully over 20-30 years.
